What is lore? Yes, this is the question I have gotten the most since releasing this website. While some who come here will roll their eyes, it is like Ellena said, “You can only be smart at something you know.”
"Lore" refers to the background stories, history, and details about a person, character, or fictional world that fans or online communities consider essential for understanding or appreciating it. It's a shorthand for the rich backstory and details that build a deeper appreciation for a subject.
Another term for Lore is Cannon. For instance, it is Cannon that Kriegon’s hair is white.
Why is lore/cannon important?
A major point of all stories are the world building. What the creator of the story defines in a magic system for instance can greatly restrict the main characters ability. This can lead to intense sense, intense community discussions, and amazing strategies needing to be developed to overcome the short comings.
On the other hand, take a characters personality. Start with a famous character that saved a world and devoted himself to improving peoples lives after words (take any character you can think of who completed a journey like this). Now, I come along and the start of my story who should be following through with this goal is now a drunk asshole that couldn’t give a damn about anyone but the bottle he his drinking from. Do you feel cheated, abused, betrayed? Of course you do, when it comes to that character you grew to see in a specific light and someone decides to tear them down without explanation it ruins not just that story but the past investment you made into that character.
Adding to lore
At some point you might want to add to the lore I started. I’ll get you started with a puzzle, you can silently work on the puzzle or join the community on Discord.
The first puzzle is this: The runic system for Magic. I have laid out some of the known runes in the Magic section of the website. Figure out more words of the angelic language! I dare you to try and figure out some of the potential runes Beelzebub used in the fight with the Guardians. Submit the drawing on Discord and I will confirm those who get a word right. Who knows, maybe you’ll get a free gift with a confirmed rune discovery!
